Qualities of Buddha

๐Ÿ’ Qualities of the Buddha.

Gotama Buddha once defined a Buddha as follows: "A buddha is one who, having discriminatory knowledge of the entire field of suffering, understands the arising and passing of all miseries, is completely free from mental defilements, is pristinely pure and will not be reborn."

๐ŸŒท A Buddha is always known by the following qualities:

He is an exalted one (bhagavฤ) because, having vanquished all craving, aversion and delusion, he lives the life of a liberated person.

He is a conqueror of enemies (araham) because he has annihilated all his enemies, in the form of mental impurities.

Having become fully enlightened by his own rightful efforts (sammฤ sambuddho), he is a perfectly enlightened being.

He is perfect in both wisdom and conduct (vijjฤ-carana-sampanno).

He has gone to the ultimate truth (sugato) because he has become pure in body, speech and mind.

He is the knower of worlds (loka-vidลซ) because he understands them through personal experience.

He is the unsurpassed charioteer of tameable men (anuttaro purisa-damma-sฤrathi)

He is teacher of gods and men (satthฤ deva-manussฤnamแนƒ).

๐ŸŒท Anyone who acquires these qualities will become a Buddha.

And whoever is a Buddha will have these qualities.

Detachment leads to dimplicity

[3/8, 8:01 AM] ‪ ๐ŸŒนGuruji--
By observing unpleasant sensations without reacting, we eradicate aversion.
By observing pleasant sensations without reacting, we eradicate craving.
By observing neutral sensations without reacting, we eradicate ignorance.

๐ŸŒทThus no sensation is good or bad in itself.
It is good if one remains balanced;
It is bad if one loses equanimity.

๐ŸŒปIn this way, every sensation is used as a tool to eradicate conditioning.

๐Ÿ’ Q: In Dhamma much emphasis has been given to leading a life of simplicity and detachment. In the world today, how can a householder achieve these objectives?

A: You see, more importance should be given to detachment.

Simplicity will follow, but it should not be the aim.

Otherwise Dhamma will deteriorate.

There will be a class of people who will just make a show, "Look how simply I live," but deep inside there will be attachment for wealth and riches, etc. This does not lead to liberation.

So the aim of Dhamma should be to develop detachment.

๐ŸŒท Once detachment is developed, none of these things will hold any attraction.

Naturally, simplicity will develop.

But if this becomes the aim, it will become a show.

More important is purification of the mind through detachment.

If we wish for the improvement of someone’s health can our Vipassana practice be of help?

Q: If we wish for the improvement of someone's health can our Vipassana practice be of help?

A: After an hour-long practice of Vipassana, with the mind purified somewhat, then practice metta-bhavana, directing your attention to the person who is sick, 'may you be happy, may you be peaceful'.

These Dhamma vibrations will reach that person.

Moreover, if that person also happens to be a Vipassana meditator, then when he receives these Dhamma vibrations he will get strength from the Dhamma.

In this way at least his mental pain will be alleviated.

Now he will be able to face the physical pain and when the mind become stronger, a way for physical relief is also made possible.

If someone with a physical illness also becomes mentally ill, then curing his illness will take a very long time.

However, if the illness is only limited to the body and does not affect the mind, then the recovery can be faster.

We  help others in this way.

Sensations

๐Ÿ’Sensation๐Ÿ’

Anything that one feels at the
physical level is a sensation—any natural, normal, ordinary bodily sensation, whether pleasant or unpleasant, whether gross or subtle, whether intense or feeble.

Never ignore a sensation on the grounds that it is caused by atmospheric conditions, or by sitting for long hours, or by an old disease.

Whatever the reason, the fact is that you feel a sensation.

Previously you tried to push out the unpleasant sensations, to pull in the pleasant ones.

Now you simply observe objectively, without identifying with the sensations.

It is a choiceless observation.

Never try to select sensations; instead, accept whatever arises naturally.

๐ŸŒท If you start looking for something in particular, something extraordinary, you will create difficulties for yourself, and will not be able to progress on the path.

The technique is not to experience something special, but rather to remain equanimous in the face of any sensation.

In the past you had similar sensations in your body, but you were not aware of them consciously, and you reacted to them.

๐ŸŒท Now you are learning to be aware and not to react, to feel whatever is happening at the physical level and to maintain equanimity.

If you work in this way, gradually the entire law of nature will become clear to you.

This is what Dhamma means: nature, law, truth.
๐ŸŒท To understand truth at the experiential level, one must investigate it within the framework of the body.

This is what Siddhattha Gotama did to become a Buddha.
